ˈpɔ ta Term used in parts of northern Italy without a defined meaning but mainly used as: 1. Synonymous of the English "well" (to begin a sentence); 2. The term comes from the dialect and is used in informal interactions between people of any age. It's not considered polite/usable outside of Lombardy. The rest of the sentence may be either in dialect or Italian. Sometimes followed by "figa" (slur for vagina, pussy) "casso"(slur for penis, dick, often used as the English "fuck"), in this order.
