The common assumption among residents of Manhattan that visiting any address in another borough is a heroic feat, which, if completed, will be go down in history as a "trek," "schlep," or "journey." When deciding where to meet friends, the preference for venues with long waits; shoulder to shoulder seating next to complete strangers; the most expensive version of cheap commodities; and comically loud "background" music. Symptoms: paying $1,500 for apartments without a kitchen; calling places mobbed by tourists "quaint."
