Tar-Atanamir, also called Tar-Atanamir the Great, was the thirteenth King of Númenor. He treated the Men of Middle-Earth cruelly, and he was the first King to speak openly against the Ban of the Valar. This marks the beginning of the downfall, when the Númenóreans had begun to turn against the Valar and the Eldar, and take pride in their own strength and wealth. Tar-Atanamir was succeeded by his son, Tar-Ancalimon.
