A childless adult in his or her 20s (and early 30s) who is counter cultural, and will engage in fashion, ideas and philosophies that are against the mainstream. Contrary to popular belief, the hipster doesn't define a monolithic cultural group, but unapologetic individuals who are confident and comfortable going against widespread currents and beliefs. Since hipsters don't self-identify, a simple procedure has been developed to identify the hipster: 1) in a room of 20-somethings, exclude the foreigners, awkward introverts and those with children; 2) identify those who, while seeming confident, natural and self-assured, look like fish out of water on closer inspection - these individuals are your hipsters. They'll wear tuxedos to restaurants in San Fransisco, jeans and t-shirts before the Queen of England, and a cowboy hat to a night club. They'll listen to 1920's music when in L. A., indie rock when in Texas, and blue grass when in Boston. A true hipster will find himself constantly at odds with local politics no matter where he moves.
