Subnetting is a way to break your TCP/IP network into sub networks, known as subnets. It's a lot more complicated than it sounds, or than it appears at first glance. Although it seems a little redundant, without it there would be no internet. We all owe a lot to subnetting ,and subnet masks, and the crazy people that invented it all.
