Hood Standard is an occurrence commonly experienced by people in the inner city or the "hood." This occurs when a seemingly successful person from the hood is praised by fellow hood members for their impressive accomplishments. While this person might truly be successful, most are usually only successful by hood standards. In the hood, going to college and having a wide vocabulary might be seen as a tremendous success. However, outside of the hood, these accomplishments are commonplace. This causes the person to have a false sense of security and an inflated view of themselves. This can be detrimental when the person leaves the hood and is pushed to confront the real world, where their "accomplishments" might not mean much. It is important to remain level headed, humble and hardworking to avoid this false sense of security and prevent Hood Standard. When a successful person from the hood avoids Hood Standard they will become truly successful by all definitions in society. (This is not to discredit the accomplishments of people from the hood as they do have to overcome enormous obstacles such as poverty and crime)
