This is how you spell the sound of whimpering. One can use the actual letters as a form of comedic whimpering. The letters are said individually and in pairs, as in: M-H, M-H, M-H. Not much is known about this spelling, however many scholars attribute the origin of the spelling to a young teenager in the 1980's who lived on Long Island. Legends say that to this day, this man continues to mhmhmh all over the place.
