Spending time with a bunch of dreary, repetitive people in a claustrophobic office environment. The continual mental pain arising from having to chose between submitting to this environment, or sacrificing one's job and livelihood, leading to a state of perpetual homeless and curtailed life expectancy. This can be particularly heightened when working in IT infrastructure, as the subject matter itself is almost as heart-breakingly dry as one's colleagues. Any sort of proximity to engineers qualifies as torture. Any sustained, or even brief contact with professionally inadequate co-workers qualifies as torture. The pain can be physical as well as mental, as you slam your own face into the table in the hope that the blinding pain distracts from the far more serious mental anguish.
