An informal term for the social phenomenon that people with more beautiful and stronger hair stand in some way superior to those with less. For this reasons, forced haircuts and head shaves have often been used to subjugate and suppress people throughout history. Even in modern developed countries, the expectation of men to keep their hair short is subtly tied to the need to limit their means to raise their status.
