1. n. Confusing and meaningless diction used by the media to mitigate the appearance of problems. 2. n. Contrary manner of speaking which can generally be understood by negating the apparent meaning of a statement. This word is closely related to the word spin but differs in that newsspeak can refer specifically to the term used by the media. The word newsspeak is a play on the word newspeak, the fictional language in George Orwell's 1984 designed to prevent people from understanding how the world works.
