The precursor to the vastly popular 700 model, when released, it was more accurate than any other centerfire rifle ever, mainly due to its revolutionary, all in-house design. Available in .270 Winchester and .30-06 Calibers, the rifle was soon immensely popular among all types of hunters. It was also very affordable at the time, retailing for less than $90. Its no-frills, nothing special design hit home with hunters that were looking for an accurate reliable gun that didn't break the bank.
