A bicycle frame that uses two thin tubes running straight from the fork tube to the dropouts instead of the traditional top tube and chainstays. Developed in France, and literally means "unisex," since these bikes are acceptable for men to ride despite having a step-through design like a woman's bike. Mixtes are often confused with fixies, bikes with a fixed gear. However, it's possible to have a mixte fixie. In France, the word is pronounced like "mixed," but in America it's pronounced "mixedy."
