A subint is a person who is the "subject of interest" in a police or legal investigation. As opposed to the unsub, the subint is known to the authorities. They may or may not be a suspect, but are never a CI, who are referred to as such. In Intelligence circles, this can also be used to refer to a person targeted by the intelligence agency for information collection.
