1. a text belonging to the corpus of Bible literature, but whose value or authenticity compared to texts of the New Testament are disputed or have been disproved. 2. any text that has a theoretical or historical affinity to a more established corpus of literature, but whose value and influence has been compromised; this might be due to lack of knowledge as to the existence or whereabouts of the text, volatile antipathy towards the sentiments of the text, or any other process of systematic or involuntary underacknowledgement of the text.
