If the stereotypes are to be believed, then it is the land of the socialized [psychopaths]. According to stereotypes, the people are:

-narcissistic/arrogant/self absorbed
-shallowly charismatic/good enough at faking to get rich
-well schooled/intelligent/smart enough to get what they want
-manipulative
-deceitful
-bad drivers/impulsive drivers

However, though there are no doubt people in the region who fit such a [description], there is a silent majority who are pretty good people. Some of them are just so unused to energetic or very happy personalities that they regard them with suspicion, and are [uncomfortable] with very friendly strangers. They warm up to a person after a while, though, when they grow use to or [comfortable] with them. Also, not everyone there is rich, liberal, preppy, and/or has gone to private schools. Most New Englanders that I have met live in single story (2 if you count the attic) houses on 1/4 or maybe 1/3 an acre of land, go to public school, don't give a damn about politics, and are annoyed by preps. "Wicked" as a substitute for very is common, though, as rumored.
