Boxmas, a portmanteau of Christmas and Boxing Day, takes elements from both holidays to form a new day of celebration. The holiday is usually celebrated much the same way as any other notable occasion in Australia - with good company, music, and excessive amounts of alcohol. It is also seen as good form to partake in the giving of gifts, shows of affection, and cake. Boxmas is the third largest celebrated end-of-year holiday in Melbourne, Australia. Promoters aim to expand it's reach exponentially over the next 10 years.
