A NHL Team in the Ohio capital of Columbus, formed as an expansion team in the 2000/2001 season. Their name comes from the Civil War history in the state and city. (Most of the Union jackets were made in Columbus, and the state of Ohio contributed the most percentage of soldiers). Their first playoff appearance was in 2009, in which they were swept by the Detroit Red Wings. Notable players right now include: Steve Mason (G), Rick Nash (LW), Mike Commodore (D), and R.J. Umberger (C).
