Usually appears as a surname and represents one of the oldest families from the former Indian State of Hyderabad. The name is Arabic for "Pride of the Creed". After the annexation of the ruling Nawabs by the Indian government in 1947, the Iftekharuddin family is now dispersed in many parts of the world. Nevertheless, their surname is reminiscent of the Nawab Era of the State of Hyderabad.
