A fish commonly found in the northern regions of South America, such as Guyana and Suriname. Also found in Trinidad and Tobago under the name cascadura. Hassa generally thrive in dark, muddy waters. They have hard shiny black scales that serve as a form of protective armor. Though quite bony, Hassa meat is one of the sweetest. The fish is cooked in a curry with potatoes, okra, and coconut milk.
