An Australian colloquial term coined in Wagga Wagga, N.S.W defining a hand action produced when listening to heavy metal music, particularly during an epic guitar solo. The shelving action references the putting of drugs in ones anus. It is performed by holding the palm of your hand upright, with fingers elongated and violently thrusting your arms back and forth. Contrary to popular thought the shelf is actually a sign of adoration for a band, and its use has subsequently spread across Australia, and across genres.
