In this day and age, "emo" is now the definition for numerous things such as the way someone dresses; certain genres of music; the way people act; a mood and also someone who feels the need to self harm. Emo originally derrived from the sub-genre of punk known as hardcore punk in the late 80s and lived on from there. "Emo" music as it is commonly called, is typically music filled with long high pitched screams, continous off beats, a guitar riff that is usually on 3 string and at one side of guitar. And all of this for the Teenagers who want to be someone they are not and want attention from their peers as they believe their life is far harder than anyone elses and that no one understands them or how hard their life is.
