Well known for alchoholism which spawned phrases such as "mangle-spangled" and "hooped" meaning to be paraletic from alchohol consumption. Home of the drinking club "penicuik booze hounds." also famed for many useless shops, such as numerous estate agents, funeral directors, dentists and optitions.
