The curtsy/bow one does instantly when walking into a men's room to check to see if anyone is in the bathroom stalls by getting a view of their feet. It is typically done in one fluid motion after opening the door in order to allow a swift unbroken exit in a marine-like pivot should the stalls be occupied. To the untrained observer and anyone unexpectedly walking towards you (often from the urinals) it appear as if you are bowing to the stalls to show respect.
