is a French village, located in the department of Pas-de-Calais and region Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The inhabitants of this small city are called Airois or more seldom Airiens. A commanderie of the templars and Benedictines' abbey, there remains a section of wall and tunnels that were discovered in 1972. Being successively part of the county of Flanders, the county of Artois, the dukedom of Burgundy then Spanish Netherlands, Aire-sur-la-Lys is definitely attached in France by the treaty of Utrecht (1713).
