Verb: A social ritual performed by a large group of American males prior to entering a gym and/or weight room involving the removal of any and all sleeved garments from their bodies. The ritual became increasingly prevalent in the early 21st century, however, anthropologists maintain that the ritual originated with the indigenous peoples of North America. The earliest de-sleeving can be traced to the Hamatsa of British Columbia which viewed the removal of sleeves as a portal to supernatural powers, and a way to show off their symbolic ink.
