An American rock band formed in 1987. The band consists of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals and guitar), Mike Dirnt (Backup vocals and bass guitar) and Tre Cool (drums). After releasing the album "American Idiot", they gained a great deal of popularity. The album deals with the George Bush era and the Iraq war, as well as being a teenager in disadvantaged areas of America and thus being without prospects for the future. Their latest album, "21st Century Breakdown", deals with the economic crisis, war and religious fanaticism amongst other themes. Although musically their latest album is not considered to be as strong as "American Idiot", it's lyrics are very advanced. Green Day are different to many other modern bands in that they sing and play music about the objective world, about relevant issues which affect a lot of people.
