Japanese word, actually derived from the English word Animation. Means... well, animation. In Japan this refers to ALL cartoons, from every country, but in America, for identification purposes, refers to only Japanese cartoons, or cartoons which possess familiar and stereotypical anime traits. Usually has a much deeper plot and more character development than your usual American cartoon. (Especially because American cartoons are typically- outdated and sexist/racist, OR modern and for small children who think the word poop is hilarious.)
