Word used to describe "subversives" (such as liberals, revolutionaries, socialists, intellectuals, homosexuals, union organizers, Protestants, etc.) who were "disappeared" under the brutal military dictatorships of Chile and Argentina. Thousands of these desaparecidos were taken into airplanes and thrown into the sea, but the governments of those afforementioned countries claimed to have no knowledge of their whereabouts. 2. A band on the Saddle Creek label, headed by musician Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, which features more politically-oriented and socialistic thematic elements than the music under the guise of Bright Eyes.
