Competent Person Syndrome. Illness afflicting competent persons when working in an environment composed primarily of incompetent people. If others become aware of the competent person's abilities, the competent person will usually wind up being assigned more and more work. This will be a compliment of sorts, in that it will be recognition that the competent person is much better at his/her job than any of the slack-jawed simpletons otherwise populating the organization. However, burn-out and fatigue will ensue for the competent worker, as will resentment that the dimwits get paid the same amount for doing significantly less work. Thus, flare-ups of CPS are to be avoided by carefully meting out competence so as not to too harshly overshadow the achievements of others.
