The world's largest cast iron statue, at 56 feet (17 meters) tall, is the statue of Vulcan in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Depicting the Roman god of fire and forge, Vulcan was built in 1904 as a symbol of the iron industry which grew Birmingham into Alabama's largest city. A viewing platform on top of the statue's pedestal has an amazing view of the city. The neighboring suburb also has a spectacular view... the statue's uncovered posterior. Bemused Homewood residents have nicknamed their view the "Moon over Homewood."
