The first female elected prime minister of New Zealand. Not the first female prime minister though; in 1997 Jenny Shipley took over as Prime Minister and Leader of the National Party from Jim Bolger, making her the first femlae Prime Minister. Helen Clark is the leader of the Labour Party and became Prime Minister in 1999 and was elected for a second term in 2002. In 1986 Helen Clark was awarded the annual Peace Prize of the Danish Peace Foundation for her work in promoting peace and disarmament.
