noun: A Seattle-based band that came to the forefront of popular music with it's 1991 smash-hit Smells Like Teen Spirit. The song became so huge that Kurt Cobain himself began to hate the song and the fame it brought him. Throughout the band's lifespan, Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic were the core members, going through a few drummers before joining up with Dave Grohl before recording Nevermind, and sticking with Grohl for the rest of the band's career. The group was disbanded in 1994 after Cobain's death, an apparent suicide, though to this day there are many people who believe Cobain was murdered. verb: to smash something to the point where it is no longer completely functional (to Nirvana something)
