A song recorded in 1967 by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Released as both a single in the US and the UK. The single peaked at number 3 in the UK but only reached number 65 in the US. Some believe that the song is a reference to LSD or an LCD induced drug trip. This is not true and was comfirmed in several interviews with Jimi Hendrix as being inspired by a dream where he was walking beneath the ocean while a purple haze surrounded him. Hendrix explained a tone point that the song is about love and disclaimed any intended reference to drugs. He said that he line whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me" is the key to the meaning of the lyrics. The song got it's name when Hendrix took the phrase "purple haze" from a Night of Light, a science fiction noel written by Philip Jose Farmer that he was reading at the time.
