In 1979 Crowe, then 22, attended a real high school in Redondo Beach, CA, posed as a 17 year old senior to research the novel. Mostly serious, with comedic undertones. 2. n. 1982 movie based on the above novel, screen adaptation by Crowe, directed by Amy Heckerling. Stars Sean Penn, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates, Jennifer Jason Leigh. Comedic, with serious undertones.
