The term began life describing taking apart a bigger object to make use of its smaller parts. Hence, getting your "money's worth". In the Yorkshire accent worth becomes wuth, munny's wuth being the new way! That was shortened to swuth over years. Describing electrical pieces smaller than an arm, of any variety.
