A critical term describing the condition of liberal political ideology—individual rights, representative democracy, free markets, procedural justice—after decades of neoliberal erosion, corporate capture, and populist backlash. Late‑stage liberalism still uses the language of freedom and equality, but its institutions (courts, elections, media) increasingly serve elite interests while offering only symbolic gestures to the dispossessed. It is liberalism without delivery: rights without remedy, representation without accountability, tolerance without solidarity. Late‑stage liberalism often responds to crisis with procedural paralysis and moralizing appeals that no longer convince.
