Physical, psychological, or structural harm inflicted on individuals or groups because their beliefs, practices, or identities are deemed “immaterial” or “unscientific.” Materialist violence can take the form of forced medicalization (e.g., treating spiritual experiences as psychosis), destruction of sacred sites, suppression of indigenous knowledge, or online harassment campaigns that target “woo” believers. It uses the ideology of materialism to justify aggression against those who live in different ontological worlds.
