A variant examining how the demand for “proof”—often defined in impossibly strict terms—chills inquiry into topics where proof, as demanded, cannot exist. This is common in debates about historical events, consciousness, spiritual experience, or emergent phenomena. By insisting on a standard that cannot be met, the demand for proof effectively bans the topic from serious discussion.
