Loli is defined as a petite and flat chested adult or teen girl, typically with a shorter torso relative to the legs and slim. The term loli most likely comes from Japanese lolita fashion, which was created in the 1980s to push back against Japanese beauty standards and arbitrary infantilization of femininity, since the dates line up purposely and girls who wear lolita fashion are often called lolis by the rest of the J-fashion community. Loli also served that purpose initially and in many ways still does. However, the sexist individuals in power in Japan immediately picked up on the threat that loliism posed to the patriarchal society they wished to maintain. Loli was a danger to the conservative society of Japan, and thus was slandered. The misogynistic normies of mainstream Japan spread misinformation and false etymologies, and the most common of which that has survived into the modern day is that lolicon comes from the book Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. This is clearly false given the fact loli was created in the 80s, whereas as Lolita was written in the 50s and gained popularity in the 70s, dying down in the 80s. If loli had come from the book Lolita then it would've come about in the 70s instead of the 80s. Unfortunately, these lies have prevailed across time and language, still plaguing the modern fandom. the recent decrease in gatekeeping has only worsened the issue of predators being attracted like moths to flame after hearing the many lies spread by antis.
