LARP was originally an acronym for “live action roleplay”, now a popular internet slang to insult someone who outwardly acts like they are a fan of the topic but is not actually knowledgeable about the subject. For instance, someone may post about a not widely-known movie they have seen clips of and claim to have watched or be apart of said fandom for attention, but continues to incorrectly assess the characters leading to others calling out their performativity.
