When someone’s genetic background is different from the place or culture where they were raised, so they grow up living between two (or more) cultural identities and fully embrace a minority identity within a larger society. It’s more than “bicultural”; a lived experience of cultural mixing, hybridization, and constantly navigating different traditions, languages, foods, and communal norms. Origin: Term coined in 2005 and later published in Jewtina y Co.’s community stories.
