An informal term referring to the mass emigration/exodus of highly intelligent/skilled individuals, such as scientists, historians, scholars or writers, from their country of origin, due to social and/or political upheaval, repression of free speech, or administrative attacks on intellectual institutions. A notable example of this phenomenon would be the exodus of Albert Einstein, who fled to the United States to escape persecution under the Nazi regime.
