The dense, floury blobs that form in baked goods, such as banana bread, when one did not mix the batter like they meant it. Plumbs are often caused by under-stirring, overconfidence, or existential flour rebellion. The term plumbs was historically coined by a well-meaning, Italian, who, in a moment of pure linguistic jazz, confused lumps with plumbs while trying to describe the unfortunate texture of his banana bread.
