A radical feminist observation that some men aren’t actually “good” — they’re just good at hiding their predatory impulses. The mask of civility, respect, or gentlemanly behavior isn’t a sign of conscience or morality; it’s a costume worn to avoid getting caught by the cops, society, or embarrassed friends. Underneath, those impulses often revolve around women and girls who are far too young to consent. Radical feminism recognizes this as part of a larger pattern of male violence against women: society praises the mask while ignoring the predator, allowing harm to continue. Predator Mask Theory exposes how male “respectability” is performative, but women’s safety is not.
