A fusion of traditional Japanese instruments and Appalachian style music. The shakuhachi (bamboo flute), Koto (zither), or Tsugaru shamisen are played in styles reminiscent of banjo and guitar blue grass, then instruments lending their unique style to the music. This is different than the Japanese embracing of American Bluegrass.
