To completely and utterly mess something up beyond recognition, often by overcomplicating it, making it far worse, or ruining it through ineptitude or a misguided attempt at improvement. Implies a catastrophic failure or a situation gone horribly wrong due to one's actions. Etymology/Background: Thought to have originated from a specific individual named Ivy from the Bloom, known for their uncanny ability to botch tasks, or possibly from a situation where something vital was "strangled" or overtaken, much like ivy can strangle a plant or building.
