In basketball, a “rebound” happens when any player retrieves the ball after a missed shot. A “mebound” is when the shooter retrieves the ball after their own missed shot. “Mebound” was coined early in the 2025 WNBA season to describe the common practice of professional basketball player Angel Reese rebounding her own misses. Angel Reese missed – and rebounded – so many layups in 2024 that it lead to her having the most single season rebounds per game of any player ever, which also set a WNBA rookie record.
