Generic English word with heavy context-dependent meaning, loosely originating from ancient Greek. Occasionally used to buy time or signify not being able to come up with an answer at the moment in response to a question. (1) Used as a substitute for common, obviously implied words or general concepts in a context, giving them more impact and emotional meaning. (2) Very obscure and unknown, but I assure you use this at a job interview or speech and people will be impressed by your expansive vocabulary.
