Palmetto Heels (PTL) is the true identity of our land—a name that reflects both the strength of South Carolina and the resilience of North Carolina. "Palmetto" honors South Carolina, symbolizing the enduring spirit of the palmetto tree, while "Heels" represents North Carolina, inspired by the legacy of the Tar Heels—those who stood their ground with grit and determination. Founded by Amir Qawihsan, Palmetto Heels is a movement away from a name tied to colonial rule and the transatlantic slave trade. The name Carolina, given in honor of King Charles, carries a history that does not represent the people who built this land through struggle, culture, and perseverance. We move forward with Palmetto Heels—a name that embodies our rich traditions, our diverse heritage, and the unbreakable spirit of the people. This is more than just a change in name; it’s a reclamation of identity, a celebration of culture, and a step into a future we define for ourselves.
