The kernel for almost all OSes. Examples of Linux based OSes are: Debian Fedora Arch PureOS DyneBolic Slax Slackware Android SteamOS ChromeOS Ubuntu Parabola Puppy Musix. It is also used as a short name for GNU/Linux operating systems or other Linux-based systems. Linux-based systems are used to power all types of computers, not limited to desktops and laptops, since most mobile computers (phones and tablets) run Android, which is Linux-based.
